First/last mile connectivity

First and last mile connectivity refers to the transportation solutions that link passengers or goods to major transit networks or final destinations. The first mile covers the journey from the origin (e.g., home, warehouse) to a transport hub, while the last mile completes the trip from the hub to the final stop (e.g., office, retail store, residence).

Application

  • Micromobility solutions: shared e-scooters, bikes, and e-bikes for short-distance travel.
  • Demand-responsive transport (DRT): flexible, on-demand services connecting underserved areas to main networks.
  • Park-and-ride facilities: car parking near transit stations to encourage multimodal travel.
  • Pedestrian and cycling infrastructure: safe walkways and bike lanes improving station access.
  • Autonomous and connected vehicles: smart mobility options enhancing first/last-mile efficiency
