Park and ride

The Park and Ride system is a parking policy widely employed to alleviate the negative impacts of private vehicles on urban centres. It allows drivers to park at a designated facility and transfer to public transport modes such as buses, light rail transit (LRT), or metro.

Application

In practice, Park-and-Ride facilities are used to provide parking areas near public transport hubs, where drivers can park their vehicles and then switch to buses, trains, or metros for the remainder of their journey. This system helps reduce traffic congestion and pollution in city centres by encouraging the use of public transport for the final leg of the trip. P&R facilities are typically located near residential areas and key transport routes for easy access.
