Road charging

Road charging
Road charging is a system of taxation and infrastructure fees applied to road users to finance the maintenance and development of road networks. It is based on the principles of “user pays” and “polluter pays”.
Application
Road charging is implemented through tolls (distance-based fees) and vignettes (time-based fees) to fund road infrastructure. Tolls are set based on vehicle type and distance traveled, while vignettes depend on usage duration. From 2024, CO₂ emissions impact toll rates for heavy-duty vehicles. By 2026, air pollution costs must be included.
